Gulf Gate Animal Hospital Vets
Our Sarasota Veterinarians have over 65 years of experience diagnosing and treating veterinary patients!
Edward A. Cole, DVM
Dr. Edward Cole has lived in Florida for 35 years. He was raised in Lakeland, Florida where he started working at a veterinary hospital when he was 9 years old. He graduated from Lakeland Senior High School with high honors and headed to the University of Florida where he became the youngest person accepted into the veterinary school. He graduated Summa Cum Laude. At the University of Florida, College of Veterinary Medicine, he met Jeanette (The other Dr. Cole) in the same class and their fondness of animals drew them together; they have been together ever since. His special veterinary interests include cardiology, surgery, dermatology, ultrasound and echocardiography.
In his spare time Dr. Ed enjoys playing volleyball at Siesta Key, Bee Ridge Park and the south sarasota YMCA, and riding bikes in the palmer ranch rails to trails. He also likes to scuba dive, snorkel and go camping.
Jeanette Cole, DVM
Dr. Jeanette Cole was born and raised on Long Island, New York. She was one of seven children who found her niche as caretaker of the family pets. Jeanette is a graduate of the University of Florida with a Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, and a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine (DVM). GO GATORS! She focuses her veterinary career on companion animals, where she attends to the needs of Sarasota's finest dogs and cats and various other furry friends. Jeanette truly loves all aspects of veterinary care, particularly, dermatology, internal medicine, behavior medicine, and surgery.
She enjoys going downtown to take yoga classes, reading books from the Sarasota libraries, and is active in the AWANA program at Sarasota Alliance Church.
The Drs. Cole
After they graduated, they moved to Boston. Edward interned at the prestigious Angell Memorial Animal Hospital (Massachusetts Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) and Jeanette interned at a large specialty practice on the south shore-South Shore Veterinary Associates. After several years in private practice in the Boston area they moved back to Lakeland, Florida and practiced together in the veterinary hospital where Edward worked when he was in high school. After 3 years they moved to Sarasota to start a new era in their lives serving the pets of Sarasota. They are the proud parents of a boxer dog named "Rainbow”, a rescued cat "Charlie", a flock of chickens, and 2 miniature horses, Shaggy and Scooby and a bearded dragon "Spike"! Their previous family have included an energetic Boxer dog, "Marley", 2 cats "Orange Boy" & "Spotty Dotty", a snake with scoliosis, "Scoli", several rabbits, several guinea pigs, and a blind rescued quaker parrot, "Scooter".
They are, also, the proud parents of Faith, born in 2004 and Daniel born in 2006.
Christina Whitcomb, DVM
Dr. Christina grew up outside of Cleveland Ohio. She attended The Ohio State University, graduating magna cum laude with a bachelors degree in agriculture, and then continued on to veterinary school where she graduated in the top of her class in 2015. Dr. Christina spent her summers off from school working here at Gulf Gate Animal Hospital and always knew she wanted to return to Sarasota after graduation. She enjoys all aspects of small animal medicine and surgery, including pocket pets and reptiles, with a special interest in dentistry, internal medicine, nutrition, and dermatology. Dr. Christina shares her home with her three rescue dogs, a husky mix, Dane and 2 french bull dogs, Daize Bubblez and Darby, and her two cats, Mary Jane and Oliver, who help keep her dogs in line.
When not at the clinic, she enjoys cooking, fitness and cheering on the Buckeyes and Cleveland Cavaliers.
Marcie Burn, DVM
Joining our practice in June 2018 is Dr. Marcie Burn. Dr. Marcie grew up in Charleston, SC before moving to Sarasota for her high school years. She worked at Gulf Gate Animal Hospital while attending high school as a technician before receiving her animal science degree and veterinary degree at the University of Florida. She has practiced on the east coast for 9 years, but decided returning to Sarasota was where her heart lies. We are excited to welcome Dr. Marcie back to our Gulf Gate Animal Hospital family. She has 2 talkative schnauzers, Eli and Lyle, and a cuddly cat, Suki.
In her spare time she loves traveling with friends and family. Once a year she runs a half marathon with college friends and enjoys playing indoor and beach volleyball. Of course during football season she roots for the Gators!
